OBI and Senin Kamis

A Dutch tour organizer OBI (‘Passing wintertime on Bali’) comes every year with 250-300 guests to Bali and organizes different activities for their guests. Golf, bridge drive, tennis, special tours on the island. Also two doctors come with them. OBI asked me to give drawing lessons to their guests. I did so from 1994 till 2013. I used the Betty Edwards book and method ‘Drawing with the right side of the brain.’

May 1996 Chusin, Ziggy, Gung Citra and Suminarto invited me to join the drawing community Senin Kamis in Sanur that they just had started. Till 2003 when the community liquidated I went every Monday and Thursday afternoon to draw life models. We learned a lot from each others. In the beginning only charcoal on cheap paper, later soft pastel on Ingres paper.

Rubbing my pastel into rather smooth paper and working with only a few colors (brown and purple) gave often an original ‘old Indiesch’ effect.
